What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of over 100 phytocannabinoid compounds found in the cannabis genus. CBD is commonly derived from industrial hemp, a low THC (>.3%) variety of the cannabis sativa subspecies. CBD is a non-addictive and non-psychoactive compound.

What are the benefits of CBD?

The United Sates Department of Health and Human services holds Patent #6,630,507 which outlines some effects of Cannabinoids. The patent says,

“Cannabinoids have been found to have antioxidant properties, unrelated to NMDA receptor antagonism.  Nonpsychoactive cannabinoids, such as cannabidiol, are particularly advantageous to use because they avoid toxicity that is encountered with psychoactive cannabinoids at high doses useful in the method of the present invention.

The Department also states,

“No signs of toxicity or serious side effects have been observed following chronic administration of cannabidiol to healthy volunteers, even in large acute doses of 700mg/day.”

Which is better, CBD isolate or full spectrum hemp extract?

While many companies only support one side or the other, we like to provide both sides of the story. Here is our current Pro & Cons list for both.

CBD Isolate

PROS:

  • THC FREE!
  • Tested to be 99% CBD
  • Free from all other cannabinoids, terpenes, waxes, fats, chlorophyll & minerals (or heavy metals)
  • Tasteless, odorless crystalline powder (Taste the oil, not the extract!)
  • Potentially more cost effective

CONS:

  • No entourage effect when used alone.
  • No beneficial minerals, terpenes or other cannabinoids
  • Fake & dirty products on the market
  • Higher doses may be necessary to gain desired effect.

Full Spectrum CBD Extract:

PROS:

  • The full entourage effect all in one product
  • A wide array of cannabinoids, terpenes, waxes, fats, chlorophyll & minerals that work synergistically
  • May need a smaller dose for desired effects compared to isolate

CONS:

  • Harder to know dose of specific cannabinoids
  • Potentially more expensive
  • Contains trace THC
  • Not recommended for people subject to drug tests
What is Shilajit Resin?

Shilajt resin is a naturally occurring humic/fulvic acid-based substance found in The Altai Mountains range in Central East Asia. Shilajit is the result of natural microbial decomposition of high alpine plants over hundreds of years. It is believed that decomposition plants such as cacti, mosses and liverworts growing in areas where the natural resin is found give it an extremely unique makeup. While there is still a lot of research to be done to live up to the many health claims made about shilajit, there is something to be said about the complex makeup of this substance. It tests around 66% fulvic acid, 10% humic acid and contains 84 trace minerals in ionic (water-soluble) form, amino acids, vitamins, essential oils, bee venom and microbial metabolites that all work synergistically.

The raw shilajt resin is hard to get out, what do I do?

We have found the best way to use the raw resin is to put about 5-10 drops of filtered water in the jar on top of the raw resin. Close the jar and let the resin sit for at least 4 hours on the counter. When you come back to it after work or the next morning the top of the resin should be a honey like consistency. We have found that chopsticks and butter knives are our preferred way to stir the softened resin into water. Letting the utensil sit in the water between stirs will ensure the resin fully dissolves.

How do I take natural shilajt?

Our favorite way to take shilajit is in our water in the morning at least 20 min before food. If you are impartial to the taste, try it in smoothies, juices, kombucha, coconut water, teas or coffee. We like to switch it up! If using NutriHoney, wait for any hot beverages to cool down to drinking temperature before adding!
